Hardware Selection

Below is a list of hardware and network setup requirements for COSTAR.  Following these requirements will help ensure a successful implementation of the COSTAR application.  These requirements are a starting position and will not suit every installation. COSTAR is available to consult on hardware selection for your unique needs. Should you or your hardware provider have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.

Workstation Computers

  • Recommended specification: Intel Core i5 with 2 GB memory minimum.
  • Screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher is recommended.
  • Operating System must be Windows Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, Windows Vista Business or Ultimate.  Note: 4GB of memory is recommended for use with the Windows Vista or Windows 7 Operating Systems. 64 bit Windows 7 is supported.

Database Computer

  • The database computer is where the COSTAR application files and database will be installed. For systems up to 6 users this PC is often used as a workstation.
  • Recommended specification: Intel Core i5 with 4 GB memory minimum.
  • Screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher is recommended
  • Operating System must be Windows Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, Windows Vista Business or Ultimate.  Note: 4GB of memory is recommended for use with the Windows Vista or Windows 7 Operating Systems. 64 bit Windows 7 is supported.
  • Approved remote access solution; RDP, Cisco VPN client, Go To Assist.
  • Backup Device (Flash Drive, Removable Hard Drive, DVD/RW, Tape, etc.) amount of data to backup will vary depending on the size of the Costar Database.
  • Call COSTAR for hardware recommendations for multi-store installations or for sites with 7 or more users.

Options

  • Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010 32 bit editions.(Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Speakers are required to view and listen to the software tutorials in online help.  It is only necessary to have computers configured with speakers if you wish to listen to the software tutorials from that PC.

Printers

  • Laser printers are required for all printing; including Invoices, statements, cheques and reports.  You may use plain paper for Invoices and statements or preprinted forms.
  • Business class Lasers are recommended over small home office printers.
  • It is recommended that ALL printers be attached to the network directly through the use of an internal network card.  Avoid connecting printers to the back of PC’s.
  • Recommended printers:  HP LaserJet P2035n series, P2055n, P3005n or P3015n depending on intended volume.
  • Recommended Lexmark: E260DN, E360DN, E460DN, T650N

Internet

  • A high speed Internet connection (DSL or Cable) is recommended.  If high speed Internet is installed it must be protected behind a software or hardware firewall (Linksys Cable/DSL Router or equivalent).
